This Bartender's Good For More Than Just A Drink.

She can also spot a vampire at 30 paces and say hello to your dearly departed Aunt Sally all while kickin your skinny white azz to next Tuesday. True story.

J.A. Saare's  Dead, Undead or Somewhere in Between.

This is my first work by J.A. Saare and I must say she definitely does bring something new to the table.  Though her vamps are fairly straight forward, no sun, holy water or sharp things made of silver, her take on necromancy definitely left the box behind.  A bit strange to me for the zombie makers to be the good guys, but nevertheless fantastic.  Then we'll mix in some humans addicted to vampire blood and you've got one hell of a party.

I must say I am in love with Rhiannon, this story's heroine.  This girl's take no crap attitude is one I myself wish I could adopt.  And I'd also like to adopt her tasty vampire lover or, hell, I'll take his broody right hand man.  Or even their trusted necromancing familiar.  Really I'm not picky.  But Rhiannon can keep her gift of seeing the dead TYVM.  Because, really who wants to wander around a city as great as The Big Apple and see all the spirits that must be haunting the streets there.  Can you imagine??  I shudder at the thought.  But I digress.

To my followers who may not have read this yet.  Be forewarned my people!  Dead,  Undead or Somewhere in Between takes you to places you've always wanted to go,  then to some places you've never wanted to go and abandons you with 2 wheels hanging off the edge of a very steep cliff. There is romance, mystery, and even some murder complete with an evil villain (who is still seriously creepin' me out!) And then your happy-ever-after giddiness slides right through your fingers in the last second.  Cause this author is ebil...and she seemingly enjoys sticking it to people...even her mother!! See what I mean in this post of her BLOG

I am so so glad that I didn't find this book until the next one came out.  Cliffhangers make my eye twitch. Unfortunately a condition not necessarily cured by reading the next book in the series. See my next blog about that when it's my stop on its virtual tour.

One bad corpse can ruin your whole day.

No one knows that better than Rhiannon Murphy. She’s left behind the flash and sass of Miami for the no-nonsense groove of New York City, eager for a clean slate and a fresh start. A bartender by trade, a loud mouth by choice, and a necromancer by chance; she’s managed to keep her nifty talent hidden from those around her – until now.

The deliciously good-looking vampire Disco knows her secret, and when he strolls into her bar to solicit help investigating the mysterious disappearances of his kind from the city, she discovers he’s not the kind of person that appreciates the significance of the word no.

But in a world where vampires peddle their blood as the latest and greatest drug of choice, it’s only a matter of time before the next big thing hits the market. Someone or something is killing vampires to steal their hearts, and unlike Rhiannon, this isn’t their first stroll around the undead block.

Well I think I slaughtered this review to death. I need to come up with some sort of rating system soon.  Any suggestions??

Sometimes You Feel Like A Nut

And sometimes you wonder if the author truly is one.

Because, I tell ya, every time I pick up a book written by Janet Evanovich I wonder what must be going on in her brain.

I just finished Wicked Appetite after reading Metro Girl yesterday, and I phew! what a ride. I think I'm still breathing a bit heavy.

Janet's books contain some of the craziest characters I have read to date, and I have read a lot.  Plus, her books always seem to go 60 mph. I sometimes wonder how her fingers keep up with her brain when she writes, if her personal self moves this fast.

As for myself, I never would dream of putting magic stones, rival sorcerers and baked goods together with a monkey who's communication skills rival a pissed off trucker, and a guard dog ..er.. I mean guard cat.

I say that Janet's books are instant pick-me-ups.  Read one when you're having a bad day.  Read one when you're pissed off.  Read one when it's raining outside, or hell, when it's sunny too.  Or even if you're having a perfectly fantabulous day you just want to make even better.  (And now I sound like one of those 2 am infomercials selling hits from the 1980's.)

The following is from the site for the Wicked Appetite and you can read some excerpts HERE

Seven Stones of Power.  No one knows when they were created or by whom, each said to represent one of the Seven Deadly Sins.

For centuries, treasure hunters have been eager to possess the stones, undeterred by their corrupting nature.  The list is long -- Genghis Khan, Alexander the Great, Napoleon, to name a few.  Now the Stones have found their way to Salem, Massachusetts, and so has Gerwulf Grimoire, adding himself to this rogues' gallery of power seekers.  He's an uncommonly dangerous man, with a hunger for the forbidden, and a set of abilities that are way beyond ordinary.  Abilities that he feels entitle him to possess anything he might desire.

That would include Elizabeth Tucker, the woman he needs to find the Stones.  She's freshly transplanted from New York City to Boston's North Shore.  With a new job as pastry chef at Dazzle's bakery and an old house inherited from her Aunt Ophelia, her life is pretty much on track …until it's suddenly derailed by a guy named Diesel, a rude monkey, and a ninja cat.

Lizzy can handle the monkey and the cat.  She's not sure about Diesel.  He's offering up his own set of unusual talents, promising to protect her from Grimoire.  The kind of protection that Lizzy suspects might involve guarding her body day and night.

The Seven Deadly Sins are pride, greed, lust, envy wrath, sloth and gluttony.  That pretty much covers everything that is wicked.  Diesel thinks it also pretty much covers everything that's fun.  And Lizzy thinks Diesel and the Seven Deadly Sins cover everything her mother warned her about.

Well no one, most certainly not me, could put it better than that.
